Thankful Thursday

|

As I've written several times over the last few weeks, I have been striving to make better use of my time. I've also been trying to make sure I spend the most time on those things that are the most important. As I've been working through some of this I have also thought about all the conveniences I have in my life that allow me to have more time for those of more importance. It is for these things that I am thankful for this week.

* My washing machine and dryer... this is a big one for me. I can just throw those clothes in and let them wash and then dry while I go and do other things around the house or go play a game with my kids. I don't have to take time to go to the laundromat or fill up the wash basin or take a walk to the local creek -- which is REALLY great as I'm just not one of those "wash it and beat it on a rock to clean it" kind of gals :).

* My dishwasher... as with the washing maching and dryer I can just put my dishes in there and walk away while they become all shiny clean.

* My car.... allows me to make quick trips to the grocery store, church, Target, to take the kids to school and to get me to work and back each day.

* The radio and CD player in my car... now, these don't really save me time but they do allow me to make better use of my time. Thanks to great Christian radio stations and my CDs I can use my drive time to and from work each day for some praise and worship time.

* My hot water heater.... saves alot of time in heating up the water so I don't have to put my pot of water over a fire.

* My stovetop and oven... makes fixing food for the family so much faster and easier.

In this day and age I tend to take many of these items for granted. However, there is much here for which be thankful. It gives me so much more time to spend with my family or to be involved in a Bible study or many, many other things. For all of these things I am thankful!

Hey Melanie,

Great list. I take those things for granted as well. Usually don't realize it until something goes wrong!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Melanie,

Girl, I "get" you. I thought the same thing as I threw a load of towels in the washing machine this morning.

Have a great TT. I am thankful for you. Hugs.

You are right to be thankful for them. I have learned to be thankful for plumbing and electric. And so miss a furnace. We moved to a fixer upper and learned to be grateful for any source of heat. I like what you said about the rocks too. You have a great sense of humor too.

Amen sweetie, we all tend to take those things for granted. Thank you for sharing your grateful heart.

I don't know if my first comment posted or not. So I will try again. I love your humor in the washing with rocks. And agree the modern conveyances are great.

Oh, don't we all take it for granted. I went to a friends home recently who has come to live in America from India...While showing me her lovely home, she took my hand and hurried me through what I thought was the best part of the house, to the laundry room. She wanted to show me her washer and dryer. She had been used to doing the wash in the creek on the rocks.
The proud look on her face...It really made me realize how lucky we are. I am thankful too.
Thanks for the reminder.

My Dad tells the story of how my Aunt Aileen wasn't allowed to go to school on Monday's because it was wash day. There was a creek and a scrub-board involved. I'm not that kind of gal, either, LOL!

What time-savers each of the things you mentioned are! And it looks like you are making wise use of the time saved with them. Great list of things to be grateful for!

Happy Thankful Thursday!

Amen! What a great list. Those are things we totally take for granted. How difficult our lives would be without them, though!

Have a great Thursday!

HEY! Congratulations on being listed in the Cafe's "Top 100 Blogs." Call me slow, I'm just now getting around to visiting everyone.
. . . We're in the same boat when it comes the the "better use of time" issue. LOVE your list. I wish I sometimes had one of those software deals that allows me to just talk and the typing just goes. . . ya' know.
I'd visit so many more blogs and leave comments with that feature.
Today - you bless me with this TT post.
. . . and I love your blogger profile pic. (It just makes me smile!)
Have a great weekend, friend!

Yes, we do have so much for which to be thankful. So many conveniences in life for today and in this country. I was a big fan of Little House on the Prairie. I can't imagine doing it the way they did. But you know, they did have such an appreciation for life. I'm not saying we don't but it does make it easier to take these luxuries for granted. Cell phones and computers even. I love love love my email and staying in touch with people...it is so convenient to send a note and then let the person email back at their convenience. The alternative being trying to coordinate our busy schedules to make phone calls to all our loved ones every day. At any rate, that's minor but still a huge privilege.

Thanks for this reminder of our many, many blessings.

Great list. I think we sometimes forget how hard our ancestors had it and we aren't as thankful as we should be. Thanks!

Melanie,

As a teen I had to do laundry at the laundromat and I can tell you that having a washer and dryer at home is definitely something to be grateful for! Thank you for this beautiful post. I love your thankful heart!

Blessings to you, my sister, my friend.
