Thankful Thursday - April 17, 2008

"Be anxious in nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

This week I am so thankful that I can turn my worries over to God and He will carry the load for me. This last week has been filled with a number of trying, worrisome situations. None of them have "quick fixes", so I need to be able to accept that it "is what it is" for a period of time. I don't want this to just be an "okay, if I MUST" type of acceptance either... I want it to be an acceptance that brings peace. Last night I set down and turned each situation over to God and asked Him to provide me with the "peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension". I immediately felt that peace flow over me and woke up this morning feeling renewed and was ready to face the day regardless of what might happen. I truly feel at peace and know that as long as I keep relying on God, that I will continue to feel this way until the time comes for each situation to be resolved.

Thank you, Lord, for peace. Peace that is beyond our human comprehension.

acceptance that brings peace ... so hard for me at times. But as long as I trust everything to the Lord, I know I'll get that peace, too. :)

Thanks for sharing these verses and your thanksgiving with us. Thank God that He gives us peace when we cast our cares and anxieties upon Him. I am learning to do that day by day too. The Lord is faithful. Hope you have a blessed day!

I too have recently experienced, and actually still am experiencing that peace that surpasses all understanding.

I will be praying for you, I too am experiencing some hard things that definitely do not have easy, quick fixes, but I know that God is in it for the long haul with me, and praise Him that His mercies are new every morning, that His grace is sufficient for every need, and that when we are weak His is strong! What an awesome God we serve!!

Melanie,
Your post reminds me of another woman I have stumbled across on the internet. Her name is Kristy Dykes(she is a Christian author) and she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in November, which carries a poor prognosis. She has written on her blog that from the moment the doctor named her tumor, she felt like God slid a comfy chair beneath her for support. It seems to have brought her peace, despite the circumstances. If you would like to read more of her journey, here is her site...www.christianlovestories.blogspot.com

I am praying that you continue to feel strength and peace.

I used the same verse on my post today. Trust God with those things that you gave to Him. He is faithful. Be at peace dear one. Blessings on your day.

I am so glad you have peace. My family is going through several very hard struggles and it is so easy to turn things over to HIM...but, I tend to pick them up as I am getting up. I need to leave them there for HE knows so much more than I and will work all these things out for the best. Thanks for reminding me.

I am saying a prayer for you. I thought you could use the prayer that my brother reminded me of just the other day as I was asking for answers...
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

This scripture is such a comfort. Glad the Lord has given you His peace, despite the difficult situations you find yourself in the midst of. May He continue to provide rest and peace for your soul whatever may come.
