Thankful Thursday

|

I have been thinking alot over the last couple of days about the foundation I have in the Lord. What an awesome thing it is to know that my life is built on the most firm foundation that exists. Not only is it sturdy and strong, but it is also soft and comforting. It is a foundation that I can rely on.... ALWAYS.

I've included below the words to the old and familiar hymn "How Firm a Foundation" -- a beautiful description of all we have in the Lord. I am so very thankful that I have the assurance of the firmest of foundations on which to stand!

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in his excellent word!
What more can he say than to you he hath said,
to you that for refuge to Jesus have fled?

"Fear not, I am with thee; O be not dismayed!
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

"When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
for I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

"The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell shall endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no, never, no, never forsake."

What a great reminder Melanie. Yes, without a firm foundation, the house will fall. I love that old hymn and haven't heard it in years. It comes from my Baptist roots.

Many blessings!

Going through the flames right now. It is very painful. The gold is beginning to separate from the junk. Thank you Lord for the flames.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful song with us. Blessings

Anything without a good foundation is bound to stumble...and it is only with Him that our foundation is fortified!

O Melanie, I'm such an old hymn girl. Your words at the start of your message just filled me up. When I think of Christ as my foundation -- my sure foundation -- my only foundation it brings me to that old song:

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

Thank you for sharing with us.

Love you.

P.S. I love your new photo profile!

I wanted to say, "THANKS," for commenting that you'd love to hear stories about Brent. It really is a blessing to be able to talk about him with someone that truly cares.

Have a GREAT weekend!
I ♥ You! ☺

A firm foundation... what a wonderful thing to be thankful for, and something that I have not really thought about in a while. Thanks for the reminder that I do have a firm foundation, one that can never be shaken or removed! And thanks so for including the words to that hymn, I have sung it many times, but to sit and read the words really helps them to sink into my heart and mind!

Blessings!

Oh what security this hymn lends to the believer. I love this hymn. I'm also a praise chorus girl, but the hymns, there's something about them that brings conviction, that compels me to know what I believe. So many are rich in the foundational truths of God's word. Too many Christians today don't know what they believe and are tossed about by every wind of doctrine.
Thank you for this.
Blessings to you this day.

What a beautiful hymn! Thank you for sharing. It's been a while since I've popped over here. I've missed reading your posts. I need to get less busy or manage time better or... Anyhow, I loved the line "When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;" Such a perfect truth... Blessings.
