Thankful Thursday

|

As I sit here tonight I am so tired. I am tired enough that I almost decided not to post for Thankful Thursday. However, whether I am tired or not, I still have so much for which to be thankful. God has so greatly blessed my life. I need to take time to be thankful regardless of how I feel. So, here goes.....

~ I am thankful for a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday spent with my dear family. We were so fortunate this year that we were able to spend time with both our families. Thanksgiving Day was spent with my husbands family -- his parents, brothers and their families. They are local so it was just a nice day of relaxation and time spent together. Oh, and excellent food! My mother-in-law is a caterer so we never lack for great food when we are with them. That night we hopped in the car and took a cruise up to Arkansas to spend a couple of days with my family that gathered from several states. My aunt and uncle hosted us all and we were about 25 in total. My parents, my sisters and their families, another aunt & uncle, several cousins and the newest member of the family, my cousin's 9 week old little boy. Precious does not even begin to describe this dear little guy. And, I cannot leave out my grandmother. My grandma is almost 90 years old and I can't imagine my life without this lady!

~ I am thankful for my warm house and food on my table. It is cold and windy here tonight and as I hear the wind whipping through the trees outside I am so thankful for my sturdy home to keep out the cold.

~ I am thankful for God's word that provides me the strength and comfort and reassurance I have in the Lord.

~ I am thankful for my bed with warm blankets where I can climb in and snuggle up tonight. A place where I can rest and restore my strength tonight so I will be more rested for tomorrow.

And, now that I am almost completed, I'm starting to feel a little better. I'm not feeling quite as tired as I was when I first began this post. Isn't it just amazing how taking the time to thank the Lord and share his blessings changes us and makes us feel better? I pray that as we all share our blessings and thank our Lord this week that we each will be energized and joyful and ready to walk out the door and face the world in a whole new way!

I'm tired too, Melanie! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired! When I am tired it is easy to go down hill...and get discouraged! Focusing on what I am thankful for helps...and reading your thankful list did to!!!

Now...off to bed!!!

Hey Melanie,

What a great list of things to be thankful for. I thought about you last week as we travel to San Antonio. I'm glad you had a great time with both families.

Isn't it funny how we can feel a bit better when doing things like listing things we are thankful for or doing something for the Lord or for others?

Blessings!
Cheryl

I can relate to being so tired this week. I have been trying to get all the CHRISTmas decorations up after working...it was 1 AM last night/this morning before I went to bed and it still wasn't finished. I woke up with a terrible headache so my sweet hubby took my son to school and let me sleep in till 10 AM. Boy, did I feel better.

Wonderful list of things to be thankful for...we are truly blessed in Him.

P.S. I also live in Arkansas!

It is so true what you write; we may start tired and frustrated and as we go on we feel so blessed for the ordinary and what we take for granted. Yes, I am thankful with you for all that God offers us day to day. Blessed be His name. And blessings to you.

Must be catching, Melanie! I didn't get my post up until this morning. I worked on it some last night but just didn't have it in me to finish it. Today is much better.

Sounds like Thanksgiving was a great time for you - praise God for all your blessings!

Hey Melanie
That is a wonderful list, and I hope you got plenty of rest last night and woke up refreshed and renewed this morning.

How wonderful that you still have your grandmother! Mine have both passed away, one in 97 and the other in 03, and I miss them both terribly at times. How I wish they could have known my boys...

Have a great day and thanks for sharing your thankfulness!

Isn't it awesome, amazing, and weird (to our human mind) how we can physically feel different when we mentally change our focus.

I've heard so many times how praising the Lord even for the bad things and during the hard times (whether it's physical, emotional, financial) can actually change our position.

God truly does bless us for praising and thanking Him. He honors a heart of thanksgiving because He knows it takes effort and focus to change our pace and look at all His goodness.

We are SOOOOO blessed, huh? Every night I lay my head down on my bed, I feel so comfy and love it...(okay, honestly, maybe not on those nights I'm so tired but insomnia kicks in...that is frustrating and requires refocus).
Sweet blessings, sweet one.
Paula
