Thankful Thursday

|

Today I am thankful for God's patience. I am so slow sometimes to turn straight to God. In large situations (for example, my health scare last week), I tend to go straight to God. However, with the smaller things in life --the daily annoyances, bad day at work, etc -- it seems that I try to work them out myself, become frustrated and stressed. Only then, FINALLY, do I say "Here, God, it's yours."

What's up with that? I guess part of it is that for all my good intentions, I am human. I am a sinner. You would think after 42 years of learning this truth and doing the same thing over and over, I might have it down by now... but I do not. I also strongly suspect Satan is at work in the background affecting how I react in these situations.

The good news is that God is patient with me regardless of the number of times I continue to follow this pattern. No matter the number of times I repeat the pattern, He will always carry my burndens once I do turn them over to Him. Oh, am I so very thankful for that!

I'm trying... I really am. Until I fully succeed, though, I'm going to continue to need that patience from God! And, I will continue to be thankful that He is patient with all His children!

Thanks again for a wonderful post Melanie - speaks right to the heart (I think I say this every week but it's true).
I don't know why we have to keep carrying over lessons learned, frustrates me alot. But as you said, shows we are human.

Thanks again.

Amen for a beautiful post Melanie.

Praise God that He loves us so much that He waits for us with the light on, ever patient and never conditional or demanding. We serve such a loving God and your post is a delightful reminder of that!

Blessings to you sweetie. Give all your problems to God before you go to bed, He is going to be up all night anyway. Smile, God loves you.

Darn being a human being anyway. ;) I hear you loud and clear on this one.

So true. He is patient. He knows that I am not. Why do we wait to bring our burdens to Him? He just waits and waits.

Melanie,

Wow, This is spot on. Why do we always think we can handle the small stuff. Great words. Hugs, my friend. Lynn

God's got all of the patience for both you and me. I am getting better at turning to God and letting him take care of things for me.

I am glad your health scare was just a scare.

I do the same thing, Melanie. He's faithful, though, even we we're forgetful. And slow.

It always gets my attention when I try to call my list of girlfriends in order to talk through a situation and none of them are home. It is like the Lord is saying, "Hello, I am here. Come to me first!"
Thanks for being so transparent.

Don't feel alone on this one. I do the exact same thing! You would think by now I would know better! I guess some lessons need repeating....like you so glad that HE is patient with. I find I go through this same thing with my daughter...same mistakes it seems over and over. So, I guess children will be children. I hope I show love to her like HE shows to me. WOW, I need to think about this.
Thanks for encouragement!

I guess that's why we are called the 'children' of God, we haven't grown up yet!
Great post. :-)

Hello,
I am learning this very thing right now. Trusting everything to God.
What you write about patience reminded me of a passage I read over the weekend.
A soldier went to a monk who was living in the desert. He asked him why is God persevering with him, although he has refused Him so many times.
The monk looked at him and said. "If your cloak tears somewhere, will you throw it away?"
"No", said the soldier."I'd mend it again and again".
"If you care about your cloak so much, do you think God won't care as much for the child He created?"

Amen to God having more patience with us sinful human beings. Where would we be without it? I shutter to think.

I too am thankful for God's patience! I do not know why it takes me so long sometimes to learn things, but He always sticks in there with me until I learn...

Blessings!

Melanie...I visited yesterday but wasn't feel well enough to leave a comment but I'm back to let you know I prayed anyways for you though your health scare is in His hands and you were thanking God for His patience. I'm glad that you ran straight to Him but prayed that you'd be more able to do that in the smaller things (though knowing you I'm sure they are not that small). You have a big heart.

How frail our humanness, I too have a problem with trying to do it on my own and when I mess up...
run to Him to help me out or fix it! You are so right! Such wisdom
only comes from Him! Thank you that your words bring encouragement and gratitude to an Almighty God that is all forgiving and ever ready for repentant hearts! Praise God!Be blessed as you continue blessing us!

So very true...I too sometimes make Him my last resort, rather than my first! Thank you for this great reminder.
