The Habit of Studying God's Word

|
Webster's New World Dictionary defines a habit as "a thing done often and, hence, easily; a usual way of doing".

The American Heritage Dictionary defines a habit as "a constant, often unconscious inclination to perform an act, acquired through its frequent repetition".

Merriam Webster's online dictionary offers this definition for habit: "an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary".

Do any of these definitions describe the way in which you approach studying God's Word? Do they describe the way in which you approach prayer time?

As I mentioned last week, my husband and I recently attended a study at our church that addressed spiritual growth habits. As we began the study the above definitions and questions were posed to us. I must admit... I don't always approach my study time or my prayer time in the way I would if it was a habit. This study gave me so much to think about and re-evaluate in my own life.

As I review this study and apply it to my own life, I'll continue to share more of what we discussed. I pray they will have application in your life, as well.

My study and prayer time is not what it should be either. I'm trying different things to find the structure I need with the most benefit to my spiritual walk.

Thanks, Melanie,
I'm working on that myself. Practice makes perfect.
Have a great day!

Hey Melanie
That is some good food for thought...

I do know that I if I do not have my time with the Lord in the mornings for some reason that I really miss it and long for it until I can have it again...

Blessings to you and have a wonderful day!

How about a habitual longing to be in relationship with God?
Although I realize the habit is what gets me through the dry times . . . when the longing evaporates.

Yes, that's the way I want it to be...nearly involuntary! With my eyes closed, without having to force it, but because it's just a part of who I am!

Neither of mine is what I need or want it to be. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say on this.

Study and prayer time is something I struggle with sometimes. I need to write down how I spend my time and make alot of adjustments. I have been working on a quiet time each day..it is just at different times.
Thanks for this reminder.

Blessings,
Darlene
