Then Sings My Soul Saturday - "The Voice of Truth"

|

I absolutely love this song and its message. This is one of my "go to" songs when I'm facing difficulties and feel insecure. Thank goodness we have the "Voice of Truth" to help us as we face the storms and the giants in our lives!

The Voice of Truth
sung by Casting Crowns

Oh,what I would do to have
the kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown
Where Jesus is,
And he's holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name
and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giants they keep on telling me
time and time again
"Boy, you'll never win,
you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh, what I would do
to have the kind of strength it takes
To stand before a giant
with just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound
of a thousand warriors
shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
time and time again
"Boy you'll never win,
you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

but the stone was just the right size
to put the giant on the ground
and the waves they don't seem so high
from on top of them looking down
i will soar with the wings of eagles
when i stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
singing over me

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says do not be afraid
And the voice of truth says this is for my glory
Out of all the voices calling out to me (calling out to me)
I will choose to listen and believe (I will choose to listen and believe)
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the voice of truth
I will listen and believe
'Cause Jesus you are the voice of truth
And I will listen to you.. oh you are

Thanks for sharing this song with us. I love the part when it talks about the "voice of truth", how many times we are deceived by the enemies lies. - God Bless, Laurie

I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song. It was like it penetrated into my soul. I even immediately called a friend when it was finished playing and told her she had to hear this song. It is absolutely one of my favorites. I love all of Casting Crowns songs. If you haven't read Mark Hall's book Lifestories... you should. It tells the story behind each of the songs. Thanks for joining in this week and sharing such a powerful song.

Melanie, this is so neat! We had this very song on Brent's site for a long time. Today I was actually singing it while doing laundry. (I'm NOT a singer.. LOL!)

The fact that I was able to sing it was HUGE! So many of those bring back too many memories. I'm SO THANKFUL that GOD is bringing us to a place that those memories make us smile. Each new sunrise brings us another day closer to going HOME! WWWWEEEEWWWWW... I can't wait! =-)

Melanie,
I love, love, love Casting Crowns and this song really speaks to me. In April of 2004, my pastor asked me to share my testimony. In the days that led up to that Sunday, the lyrics of that song are exactly what I experienced. Particularly this part...

It was hard to share my story that day in front of all those people but I knew that it was for His glory. At some point, I know that I will be stepping out of that boat again to share that same story on my blog. When that time comes, I know He will sustain me just like He always has.
Thank-you for sharing a song that means so much to me, too!
