Thankful Thursday

|

Well, today I am thankful for my son Josh! Friday is his 7th birthday and I just can't believe he is already 7 years old and will be starting 1st grade in just another week. Wow! They say time flies when you're having fun and I would certainly say that is true for us.

I never dreamed the fun I could have with my own children and especially with a little boy. I grew up in a house full of girls. I have all sisters and not a brother in the bunch of us. When we found out we were expecting a boy I honestly wasn't sure what I would do with a boy. I mean, I knew I would love him.. nothing different there. But, what do little boys do for fun? Play in the mud, you say? UGH! You know, though, he has confirmed for me that little boys do play in the mud from time to time. But, he has also taught me how incredibly sweet and loving little boys are. Who knew?! This little guy is always up for a hug... doesn't matter what we're doing or who is around. If he senses that I'm having a rough day, he is right there with a hug and an "I love you, Mom". At bedtime he tells me just about every night that he "loves me all the way to the moon and back 10 million, billion and a gillion times".

And, fun? Oh. my. goodness. This little guy is the essence of fun. His smile will light up a room and his laugh comes from deep down inside. I can not even think what's he's laughing at is funny myself and I end up laughing just as hard as he is!

As you can tell in the picture he is all about fun and relaxation this summer. He really knows how to sit back and relax and enjoy life. I have pictures of him in almost this exact pose at under 2 years old. I know I'm his mommy and probably just a wee bit prejudiced, but they are too cute!

So, this week I am thanking God for my kind, loving and sweet 7 year old Josh! Thank you, Lord.

Your son is such a sweetie! Those hugs and sweet assurance of his love must be really heart warming. I can almost picture how joyful your heart must be! Love the part where he said he loves you all the way to the moon and back 10 million, billion and a gillion times. Must be the love of God working in His heart to love with such immeasurable love! Thanks for sharing this beautiful thankful post, Melanie. I can't help by smile throughout. You are so blessed to have such a loving son and He is blessed to have such a loving mother. God bless you always!

I was the same way before I had my son 3 months ago. What am I going to do with a little boy? Well, it turns out that even at 3 months old, they are a blast. What a wonderful thing to be thankful for! Blessings!

Boys are great. Our first was a girl and for 9 years every time she had to go to the bathroom in a restaurant (which she would have to do just as the food would get there),I'd have to take her. Now with 2 boys in toe, my husband gets to do it lol. Boys are great, and BUSY! Happy birthday to your son.
Blessings,
Kim

I pray your son has a happy birthday tomorrow!

How precious your post was! I loved reading about your son and your thankfulness for him. I can so relate to growing up in a family of girls. My parents have one daughter who is older than I am, and I have a sister who is 13 years younger than me. When I married, Steve had custody of Kristyn, his daughter. Then came da boys! My uncle had twin boys (well, Susan did the work, but you know what I mean, LOL), Kristyn had our precious grandson, and is due with another boy Nov. 1 and Jennifer, my sister, is having a section Tuesday to welcome Ethan. Boys Boys Boys! Thank heaven for little boys. I love them so much. They have opened up my eyes to a whole new world that doesn't include dolls or pink frilly things. I do hope her next one is a girl, though, LOL. I kinda miss the pink cuteness.

Hey Melanie,

I smiled really hard when I was reading your post because I felt the exact same way (what am I going to do with a boy when I've only been surrounded by girls?), except the opposite. I had had two boys first and there were lots of years between them and my last child, a daughter. I'm a girl, and I know what we do, but trying to raise one properly...I was scared and perplexed. I knew exactly what to do with boys though.

I can just hear your heart on how much you love your son. What a blessing our children (oops, I mean God's) are to us!! I'm so thankful He allowed me to have them.

Have a good rest of the day!

Happy Birthday to Josh! I too have learned how wonderful boys can be and what fun we can have with them. When I found out I was having twins, I just knew that at least one would be a girl, but I was wrong! I love my boys and can't imagine life without them, they have brought me tons of love and joy!

Blessings!

I have 3 boys so I can relate... I thought I would be the perfect "girl" mom, but I learned that I through the Lord's help would become a "boy" mom... I have learned much from them :) Blessings on your son's b-day!!!

I always thought I would have boys. God blessed me with 2 girls instead. Always wondered what if? I always figured little boys would be like having puppies. Sounds like you are blessed in deed.

What a sweetie. Boys can be LOTS of fun! I am just the opposite, I grew up with brothers, my first born was a boy. So when my daughter was born I wasn't sure what to do with HER. But I LOVE it now! :)
Enjoy that cutie of yours!
